Q: “Do you have any advice about getting known as a queer artist, or how a person can get asked to submit to a queer art zine?”

A: I will send you the link to the magic button you press to make it happen. I remember when I pressed that button, and everything started happening. I’m so glad I…

I couldn’t agree or relate more to this!
When I was first starting out, fresh out of college I submitted my work to all kinds of places and got all kinds of rejections. I could tell you some soul crushing stories! I shed a lot of tears and worked a lot of awful jobs. I kept trying to get better and I kept working. I kept submitting and eventually some  places accepted me and I got work with them.
One thing I wanted badly was to be part of a community of comic artists. This was something I had a small taste of in college and I missed it. So I joined forums, participated in things, went to shows, tried to meet people who’s work I admired and I saw as my peers. Nothing comes easy or fast, like Megan, I’ve also been at this for over 10 years.

Probably the best guide/explanation I’ve seen on this topic is Spike’s comic: Everything I Know
