Gerda Wegener’s work was a huge influence on me and she remains one of my favorite artists. I’m always amazed at how little recognition she gets. I wish more of Lili Elbe’s work remained, her story is sad but inspiring.
A movie is apparently being made about the two of them, although it’s based on a book which completely changes who Gerda is. I can only hope it will treat their story and Lili’s struggle with the respect it deserves.
